Kauffman Global Scholars Program Applications Now Open

Library books (timetrax23/Flickr)The Global Scholars Program, a six-month training program on entrepreneurship offered by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City, Missouri is now accepting applications for 2012. The foundation encourages recent (since 2009) undergraduate or graduate degree recipients with ideas for new businesses in the natural or physical sciences, technology, and engineering fields.

Applicants need to exhibit ideas that represent significant innovations, and are capable of translating their ideas into high-performance new enterprises. Applicants with early-stage companies are welcome to apply, says the foundation, but companies should not be older than 12-18 months.

Participants must be United States citizens or legal U.S. residents. Applicants must also be enrolled in or hold a degree from a university in the United States.

The program involves a full-time training course for six months, during which Global Scholars are expected to study, exchange ideas, and work with entrepreneurial experts. The foundation says program participants will meet with leading scholars and thinkers, policy leaders, innovative researchers, and business founders. They will also learn from fellow aspiring entrepreneurs from other countries.

The course involves as well visits to universities to exchange ideas with faculty, students, and those engaged in entrepreneurial work. And the program offers a three-month internship at a participating company where the Global Scholar can experience entrepreneurship first hand.

Applications must be made online. The deadline for applications is 17 October 2011.
