Green circuit board close-up (Peter Shanks)The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reports today that worldwide semiconductor sales in August 2010 rose 1.8 percent to $25.7 billion, from $25.2 billion in July.  Sales rose in all regions, with chip sales in Japan registering the largest increase of 4.1 percent followed by the sales in the Americas that rose 2 percent.

Compared to August 2009, sales in August 2010 rose worldwide by nearly a third (32.6%). All regions recorded sales increases of 20 percent or more, with chip sales in the Americas gaining nearly a half (47.1%) compared to August 2009. All monthly sales numbers represent a three-month moving average.

SIA says global chip sales for the first eight months of 2010 totaled $194.6 billion compared to $134.7 billion for the same year-to-date period in 2009, an increase of 44.4 percent.
