Green circuit board close-up (Peter Shanks)The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) reports today that global sales of semiconductors grew in value to $25.2 billion in July, an increase of 1.2 percent from June when sales were $24.9 billion. This level also represents an increase of 37 percent over July 2009’s sales of $18.4 billion.

SIA says that year to date chip sales total $169.2 billion by July, an increase of 46.7 percent from the $115.3 billion in the first seven months of 2009. For the year to date, all regions made solid gains of 20 percent or more, led by the Americas with the largest increase, 52.7 percent.

Sales in the Americas for July 2010 alone led other regions, with a 3.6% increase, followed closely by Japan, with a 3.1% gain. July chip sales in Europe and the rest of Asia/Pacific remained about the same as in June. All monthly sales numbers represent a three-month moving average.
