Financing Deals: 12 July 2010

Accuri Cytometers in Ann Arbor, Michigan completed a $6 million financing deal involving sale of preferred stock to a group of investors including Arboretum Ventures, Baird Venture Partners, Fidelity Biosciences, Flagship Ventures and the InvestMichigan! Program co-managed by Credit Suisse. The company plans to use the financing to expand its C6 brand cytometer into the clinical in-vitro diagnostics market. Flow cytometers examine microscopic particles in a fluid stream and analyze their properties, often in real time.

Reata Pharmaceuticals in Irving, Texas announced a $78 million equity financing agreement with two of its current investors, CPMG Inc. and Novo A/S. The company plans to use the funds for the second of two clinical trials of its bardoxolone methyl product in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease and Type 2 diabetes.

Alchimer S.A. in Massy, France announced a recent equity investment by Panasonic Venture Group, the investment arm of Panasonic Corporation based in San Jose, California. The amount of the investment was not disclosed. Alchimer offers a process in integrated circuit manufacturing it calls electrografting that enables the growth of adherent, low-resistivity copper-diffusion barrier films on isolating surfaces through the formation of chemical bonds between the films.
