Intel Corporation and Tyndall National Institute in Cork, Ireland have signed a research collaboration covering several fields related to electronics. The agreement also provides Intel with a license to commercially develop technology created through the collaboration with Tyndall.

Under the agreement researchers from Tyndall and Intel will investigate new materials, devices, and photonics technologies that with a potential impact on the performance and direction of future electronic systems. Tyndall’s research ranges from theoretical modeling and design to new materials, nanotechnology, device processing and fabrication, packaging and integration, and systems incorporating these devices.

The agreement runs for three years and is valued at $1.5 million. It is the first of a kind for Intel in Ireland, and only the second such collaboration for Intel in Europe.
