In just the past month, Science & Enterprise reported on two new medical technologies that harness the camera on a smartphone for general diagnostics and to screen for liver diseases. Taking photos is one of the leading uses of smartphones, documented by the chart posted above from Statista showing the growing number of images captured with phones since 2013. According to InfoTrends, the source of the graph, some 1.2 trillion photos will be taken this year, 85% by smartphones.
