25 November 2017. Science & Enterprise keeps a regular watch on new patents and other intellectual property developments among enterprises based on science. Our friends at CB Insights compiled a recent research brief with a chart showing where the top five technology companies — Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft — are placing their bets with new patent applications. The chart is this weekend’s infographic.
CB Insights says Microsoft has the most patent applications among the Big 5 since 2009, but Google/Alphabet appears to have the broadest range of technology targets. The brief points out that Apple is making the biggest push into health care with patent applications on smartphone-based diagnostics devices and electrocardiograms conducted with wearable devices.
