DuPont Acquires Nanotech Solar Materials Developer

Silicon Ink (Dupont)

(Dupont)

The global chemical company DuPont says it has acquired Innovalight Inc. in Sunnyvale, California that develops silicon inks and process technologies to increase the efficiency of crystalline silicon solar cells.  Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Innovalight’s silicon ink is made of silicon nano-particles dispersed in an environmentally friendly blend of chemicals, according to the company. When used with Dupont’s photovoltaic metalization pastes, silicon ink can boost the amount of electricity produced from sunlight, the companies say.

DuPont anticipates that the acquisition of Innovalight will encourage greater efficiencies and future innovations which could better meet market demands for higher-efficiency solar cell designs.  DuPont expects its experience in production scale-up and manufacturing operations will accelerate time-to-market for Innovalight products and broaden customers’ access to the technology.

DuPont says it exceeded $1 billion in revenue from sales into the photovoltaic market in 2010. The company develops photovoltaic module materials, including back-sheet films and sealants.
